Modelling of polycrystalline thin film solar cells
at ELIS, University of Gent

The internal structure of polycrystalline thin film solar cells is much more complicated than that of crystalline cells. Our modelling work resulted so far in a simulation programme, SCAPS-1D, which can realistically simulate all cell characteristics. From january 1999, version 2.1 is available to university users.

Also, we did modelling work to calculate the module efifciency of CIGS and CdTe modules, given the properties of the elementary cells and of the series interconnection in the module. This model is available as a users programme, Module Design Simulator.

For more details, see our publications on modelling. We participated in the European research programme JOULE (EuroCad I and II, EuroCIS I and II, PROCIS and CADBACK). Now we are in the JOULE projects CISLINE and ETA.
