Jelle De Smet, a PhD student at CMST (prom: Prof. Herbert De Smet), has won the SID Mid-Europe Chapter Student Award 2012, which is given for an outstanding scientific or technical achievement in, or contribution to, research on information display.

After defending his submission entitled 'The Quest for a Contact Lens Display' at the SID Mid-Europe Spring Meeting in Stockholm, he received the award along with a prize amounting to 1500 euro. In his work, the basic research pursuing the embedding of a display in a contact lens was presented.
