ELIS, the Electronics and Information Systems department, is one of the largest departments of the Faculty of Engineering at Ghent University. It is also one of the three departments with their main activities in the fields of electronics, computer science and ICT. In particular in these technical fields, the evolution in industry and society is taking place faster than ever.

A recent publication in Physical Review Letters, by Filip Beunis, Filip Strubbe, Kristiaan Neyts and Dmitri Petrov, received the label "editor's suggestion"

Dirk Stroobandt program committee chair of largest Dutch ICT conference

On Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 November the largest ICT conference in the Netherlands will take place in Veldhoven (near Eindhoven).

Sofie Lambert wins IMEC prize for best master thesis

Sofie Lambert has won the IMEC prize for the best master thesis in engineering at Ghent University for the academic year 2010-2011. The dissertation is entitled 'Trimming Silicon-on-Insulator Ring Resonators with a Polymerizable Liquid Crystal Cladding' (supervisors : prof. dr. ir. Jeroen Beeckman (ELIS) and prof. dr. ir. Roel Baets (INTEC)). The prize is awarded yearly for a master thesis which offers an excellent contribution to the innovation or the improvement of micro- and nano-electronic components.

Toon Brans wins IE award

Toon Brans has won the IE award in the category Energy, Climate Environment and Nature for his dissertation 'Switchable diffractive structures in Smart Energy Glass' (supervisors : prof. dr. ir. Jeroen Beeckman (ELIS), dr. ir. Casper van Oosten (Peer+). 
The award was presented by the Koninklijke Vlaamse Ingenieursvereniging.
